Despite the widely-held belief that support for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) is a crucial factor for attracting and retaining top talent, a significant proportion of Australian employers appear to be falling short in their commitment to these initiatives. While more than eight-in-ten Australians consider DEIB support as an important aspect of an organisation, over one-quarter (28%) of Australian organisations remain devoid of any initiatives, with a mere 13% of employers intending to address such issues in the upcoming year.
Given the vast scope for improvement when it comes to the state of workplace DEIB, Indeed, in collaboration with YouGov, has carried out a comprehensive study into DI&B issues within Australian workplaces. With insights from over 2,000 working age Australians, the research offers a critical analysis of the impact of recruitment processes on DEIB and identifies some of the key factors impeding employees from feeling safe and a sense of belonging at work. The findings, presented in our latest report, Championing change: Progress and opportunities for building inclusive workplaces, are intended to serve as a guide for employers seeking to enhance their DEIB practices to effect change and improve the lived experience of their workers.
