Alliance Australia is a national recruitment company spanning Alliance Community, Alliance Nursing, Alliance Rural & Remote, ACA, and Alliance Extra Staff. In a tight healthcare market, the team needed new ways to attract nurses without relying on the same channels as everyone else.

For Alliance’s nursing division, filling roles was an ongoing pressure. Traditional channels were delivering a similar pool of candidates, so the team wanted to try something different.
“For the nursing business, it’s difficult to attract staff,” says Kate Gormley, National Manager for Strategic Sourcing at Alliance Nursing.
“We were just looking to try something different to see what would be beneficial to the company.”
Their goals: diversify candidate sources, reduce dependency on paid job boards, and reach talent in Australia and overseas.
The Approach
Working with Indeed, Alliance ran a pilot to open up a fresh pipeline and get clearer visibility into what was working.
- Channel test: Ran activity on Indeed alongside existing job boards to compare overlap and quality. Kate noted, “So it was a new pipeline.”
- International reach: Used brand campaigns that could flex budgets into New Zealand, Ireland, and the UK when needed.
- Search-based sourcing: Began turning on smart sourcing (Indeed’s candidate search capability) to find suitable nurses directly.
- Hands-on optimisation: Reviewed performance with Indeed’s account team and adjusted creative, keywords, and budgets in real time.
Kate summed up why this approach resonated: the collaboration wasn’t one-size-fits-all; the team could tailor creative and targeting by region.
The Results
The pilot had recently finished at the time of interview, but the impact was clear: a new pipeline of nursing candidates and less reliance on paid external job boards.
“It’s a work in progress,” Kate explains. “Now that the pilot’s complete, the next step is introducing key heads from each of our divisions… Each year will probably get better and better.”
The collaboration also changed how Alliance thinks about hiring; moving from a transactional setup to a true partnership.

Broader Business Impact
For Kate, the real value goes beyond clicks or conversion rates, it’s about partnership and responsiveness.
“If something’s not working, Indeed’s happy to work with us to change it,” she says.
Rather than just sending over spreadsheets, the Indeed team keeps an active eye on how campaigns are performing; flagging keyword gaps, tracking ad trends, and sharing insights that help Alliance act fast and refine what’s live.
That kind of collaboration, Kate says, has made recruitment feel less transactional and more like a shared project.
A Partnership Built on Trust
“They’ve become more like friends now because of the account-management structure,” Kate says. “That’s a real testament to James and the team.”
For her, it’s the combination of professionalism and genuine care that stands out. The partnership feels personal — built on trust, humour, and a shared goal to make hiring easier.
Kate’s confidence in the results runs so deep that she’s even recommended Indeed to others in the industry, including a direct competitor.
“When you see something that works, you want others to benefit too.” she added.
