Job Description
We’re looking for a Policy Analyst to strengthen our policy and research capability and support evidence-informed decision-making across the organisation. In this role you will analyse policy and program settings, synthesise research and data, and produce clear advice and written products for internal leaders and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse policy developments across relevant Commonwealth and State portfolios (e.g., employment, NDIS, health, veterans, aged care) and assess implications for our services, clients and operations.
- Undertake structured research and analysis (qualitative and quantitative), including literature reviews, consultation input, and synthesis of internal and external data sources.
- Prepare high-quality written products such as briefs, submissions, discussion papers, options papers, presentations and stakeholder updates.
- Support program and service design by translating policy intent into operational considerations, risks, dependencies and implementation steps.
- Contribute to evaluation and continuous improvement activities, including defining outcomes/indicators and summarising findings for decision-makers.
- Collaborate with internal subject matter experts, operations teams and external partners to test assumptions and validate evidence.
- Maintain clear document management practices, version control and records to support governance and audit requirements.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and research skills, with the ability to move from detail to clear insights and recommendations.
- Excellent written communication, including the ability to write for different audiences and produce concise, well-structured briefs under time pressure.
- Well-developed verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Understanding of Australia’s public policy environment, including how policy is developed and implemented across government.
- Experience working on policy, research, program design, evaluation, strategy or related areas (government, consulting, not-for-profit or industry experience welcomed).
- Tertiary qualifications in public policy, economics, social sciences, health, law or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- High attention to detail, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Desirable
- Knowledge of one or more of: employment services, NDIS, health policy, veterans’ services, aged care, or related social services policy settings.
- Experience drafting submissions, consultation responses, business cases or similar formal written products.
- Confidence working with data (e.g., Excel, Power BI, basic statistical analysis) and translating results into plain-English insights.
- Understanding of service delivery environments and the practicalities of implementation.
