A typical day at work would revolve primarily around customer service, satisfaction and promotion. Many requirements of a sales assistant were to perform basic merchandising of products, safe and effective handling and promotion of products via active tastings/samples, and slicing loaves for sale as well as a greater understanding of the product content and health benefits to appeal to customer requirements.
During my time as a sales assistant I've learn't a variety of WHS procedures as well as gaged a better understanding of customer engagement and service.
Management opportunities arise with age and experience allowing older staff (18<) to manage junior employees for extended hours as well as the store during closing and opening hours.
The hardest part of the job I found was working with customers that may have had a rough day and openly displayed their feelings to the staff and other customers. This can be difficult if the customer becomes vocally aggressive, however with experience and practice I've found techniques to manage possible conflict of interest situations.
The most enjoyable part of the job is working with the other staff to up - sell and promote new campaigns. It is a very family orientated environment which allowed both the junior and senior staff to enjoy each others company during long working hours.
