Job Description
The Northern Australian Conference is seeking a dedicated and experienced School Principal to join our team in Mackay. As part of the Education Conference Office Employees department, this permanent Full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and inspire within the field of education. The successful candidate will take on a pivotal role in shaping the educational environment and ensuring the smooth operation of the school. Key responsibilities and main tasks include:
- A personal commitment to the mission, values, and lifestyle of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
- Providing strong leadership and vision to create a positive learning environment
- Overseeing the implementation of curriculum and educational programs
- Managing staff, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation
- Developing and maintaining effective communication with students, parents, staff, and the wider community
- Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards
- Handling budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation
- Leading initiatives to enhance student achievement and well-being
- Collaborating with educational authorities to drive continuous improvement
- Participating in professional development activities to stay abreast of educational trends and best practices

Desired Skills and Experience
The successful incumbent will meet this selection criteria:
- Being employed by the Seventh-day Adventist Church requires personal commitment to its mission, values, and lifestyle. The holder of this position will reflect in their personal and professional life the church’s Christian values, as referred to in the NAC Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Holds and maintains a valid Positive Blue Card and complies with all safeguarding and legislative requirements.
- Holds and maintains a valid First Aid Certificate.
- Current training, or willingness to obtain – CPR, Seizures and Anaphylaxis response
- Appropriate qualification in the Theology/Ministry discipline commensurate with the position.
- Church leadership experience in senior administration preferred, with several years of successful pastoral ministry and/or administration experience in an educational setting
- A comprehensive knowledge of the Church, its policies and operations throughout the Australian Union Conference, and the South Pacific Division.
- Proven performance as a manager and team leader.
- Sound working knowledge of Federal and State education-related legislation would be highly regarded.
- Ability to inspire and nurture Indigenous people to develop closer relationships with Jesus Christ.
- Get along well with others and is culturally sensitive with an interest in, and aptitude for cross-cultural ministry.
- Excellent oral and written communication
- A high level of interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in oral presentations to large and small groups.
- Must be able to keep confidences and work with integrity, communicating in a pleasant and professional manner that is representative of the organisation.
