About the Opportunity
As our Student Advising team continues to grow, we're seeking two Student Advisors to join this newly established function and make a meaningful impact on the student experience within the College of Business and Law.
As a Student Advisor, you'll provide specialist advice, advocacy and support to students throughout their university journey. You'll monitor student progress, identify those who may be at risk, and deliver tailored, proactive interventions that help students stay engaged, overcome challenges and achieve success in their studies.
You'll work closely with academic staff, Student Lifecycle & Experience colleagues and specialists from across the University to provide high-quality advice, connect students with relevant support services and coordinate strategies that contribute to student success, retention and wellbeing. Student Advisors may support a range of student cohorts based on discipline, campus location and/or mode of study, with a particular focus on supporting students who need additional guidance to thrive.
To be successful in this role, you'll have:
-
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships, work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse student and stakeholder groups.
-
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, including experience managing multiple priorities and complex caseloads.
-
Experience researching, evaluating and interpreting data to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes, advising processes and local practices.
-
A proactive and self-motivated approach, with the ability to work independently while contributing positively to team goals.
-
The ability to quickly develop and apply detailed knowledge of academic, administrative and policy frameworks to support diverse student cohorts.
-
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex information, identify solutions and provide informed advice to students.
-
Demonstrated experience building and managing relationships with multiple stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
-
Experience supporting students through case management, including developing support plans, monitoring progress and coordinating interventions that promote wellbeing, engagement, persistence and success.
-
High levels of self-awareness and empathy, with a commitment to reflection, continuous learning and professional growth.
-
The ability to think creatively and critically, identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to enhancing advising practices and the student experience.
Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
