About us

Khao Mai Thai is a busy, well-established Thai restaurant in Fitzroy North, Melbourne, known for authentic Thai cuisine made with quality local and imported ingredients. We're looking for an experienced, passionate Thai chef to join our kitchen team.

The role

We're after a skilled chef to help run day-to-day kitchen operations, maintain the consistency and authenticity of our menu, and contribute to new dish development. Day to day you'll:

  • Prepare and cook authentic Thai dishes to a consistent, high standard
  • Manage kitchen prep, stock rotation, and food safety/hygiene compliance
  • Supervise and train junior kitchen staff
  • Help manage ingredient ordering and portion/cost control
  • Work collaboratively with front-of-house during service

Skills and Qualifications

  • Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent relevant experience
  • Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen
  • Knowledge of Thai cooking techniques, ingredients and preparation methods
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
  • Full working rights in Australia, or eligibility to be sponsored under the Subclass 482 visa program
