Full job description
Interpreters and translators: join our pool for injury and disability work
Crescent Care Foundation · NSW-based · Contract (ABN) · Expression of interest
About us
Crescent Care Foundation is a not-for-profit, registered NDIS provider in Western Sydney. We support people with disability and their families, and many of the people we support share our cultures and languages.
About the work
We’re building a team of NAATI-certified interpreters and translators. They’ll support people who have a serious injury from a motor accident, at work or in sport. These people receive care through icare NSW.
We are applying for an icare contract to provide this service. If we win it, work will start from Monday 8 February 2027. Work depends on the contract and on how many bookings come in, so we can’t promise set hours. Register now and you’ll be first in line.
What you’ll do
Interpreting, face-to-face, by phone or by video:
- Interpret conversations about funding decisions, care planning and support entitlements.
- Interpret medical, allied health and rehabilitation appointments.
- Help with return-to-work meetings, reviews and assessments.
- Help people understand letters and fill in forms.
- Take on-demand, pre-booked and after-hours jobs in homes, hospitals and clinics, across Sydney, regional and remote NSW.
- Do phone and video sessions with people living interstate or overseas.
Translation:
- Translate letters, funding decisions, forms, information sheets and brochures.
- Translate care, medical and rehabilitation documents.
- Proofread and quality-check other translators’ work.
- Work to agreed turnaround times, including urgent jobs in under 24 hours.
Languages we need most
Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish and Indonesian. For translators, also Simplified and Traditional Chinese. We also want to hear from people who work in less common languages.
What you’ll need
- Current NAATI certification for each language you offer. In languages where NAATI doesn’t offer certification, NAATI Recognised Practising.
- Experience interpreting or translating in health, medical, disability, insurance or allied health settings.
- A calm, trauma-informed approach. Some people we support have brain or spinal cord injuries and complex communication needs.
- A commitment to the AUSIT Code of Ethics: accuracy, impartiality and confidentiality.
- You must be based in NSW. Participant information must stay in NSW.
- A National Police Check, or willingness to get one.
- An ABN.
- For face-to-face work: a current driver licence and your own car, or reliable transport.
How we work
- Bookings come through our online system. We ask you to confirm within 1 business day.
- Arrive and start on time, every time.
- Tell us straight away if you can’t take a booking, so we can find another option.
- We try to match people’s cultural, religious and gender preferences, so tell us what work you’re comfortable with.
- Keep all information private and follow NSW privacy law (the PPIP Act 1998 and the HRIP Act 2002).
- Tell us about any conflict of interest, such as knowing the person you’re interpreting for.
- Don’t use AI or machine translation tools without our written approval.
- Have translations checked by a second person where needed, and use icare’s terms and style.
- Help us respond to any concern or complaint within 2 business days.
- Take part in our training and ongoing professional development.
What we offer
- Per hour for on-site work, per minute for phone/video, per word for translation
- Paid travel where approved
- Meaningful work helping people understand decisions about their own care and recovery
- A community-based team that values culture, language and faith
