Why You’ll Love This Role

This is remote community Social Work at its most meaningful. Rather than working seeing families for one-off appointments, you'll become part of the community, build trusted relationships over time and work alongside families in the places where they live.

Working within the Family & Community Wellness team, you'll support children, caregivers and families experiencing complex challenges. You'll spend time in the community, work closely with Aboriginal Family Wellness Workers and help families identify their strengths, goals and pathways towards healing and wellbeing.

You will enjoy:
  • Delivering trauma-informed and culturally safe family support
  • Working alongside Aboriginal Family Wellness Workers and community members
  • Providing case management, care planning and practical support
  • Helping families navigate health, social and community services
  • Responding to complex family and social needs in a remote setting
  • Advocating for culturally safe, family-centred approaches
The Location

This is a chance to experience remote community practice, build meaningful relationships and live somewhere truly unique.

When you're not at work, make the most of the incredible surroundings with fishing, boating, camping and exploring the spectacular Top End. Despite its remote location, you're not completely off the grid — Darwin is easily accessible by short, regular flights, giving you the option to enjoy the city's cafes, restaurants, shops and services when you're back in town.

Essential Criteria
  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work or Counselling
  • Current registration with the relevant professional body
  • Experience supporting children and families affected by trauma, adversity or child protection involvement
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed and strengths-based practice
  • Experience working respectfully alongside Aboriginal people and communities
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote setting
  • Current driver licence
  • Must have full Australian working rights (i.e., Australian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, a valid Working Visa, or New Zealand Citizenship).
