The Role

An opportunity has become available for an Environmental Health Officer to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 14 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

Develop, implement and evaluate environmental health projects, quality improvement and compliance programs and undertake health risk assessments
Participate in public health incident and disaster management responses and work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team responding to communicable disease outbreaks
Work with other public health practitioners and partners for the effective implementation of environmental health and broader public health initiatives

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

Tertiary degree in (or equivalent) qualification from a recognised tertiary institution that is accredited by Environmental Health Australia or deemed eligible for appointment by the Queensland Health Environmental Health Officer Appointments Review Committee is a requirement for this role
Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
Driver Licence
Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Base salary ranging from $50.44 - $73.24 per hour

About Us

The aim of the Gold Coast Public Health Unit and the public health program it administers, is to manage risks to the health and wellbeing of the community by promoting and protecting health and preventing disease. The Unit provides a person and population focused response to communicable and non-communicable diseases, and environmental health hazards, by undertaking risk assessments, delivering immunisation services, health surveillance, prevention programs, public health incident response and monitoring and enforcing public health legislation.

The Gold Coast Public Health Unit team comprises specialists with expertise in many areas including communicable disease control, immunisation, health surveillance, epidemiology, environmental health, research, water quality, risk assessment, food safety standards and public health regulation. Gold Coast Public Health Unit employs a multi-disciplinary team of staff including public health physicians, public health nurses, environmental health officers, health promotion officers, epidemiologists, data officers and business services staff delivering the integrated public health program.
