Kalwun offers a wide range of programs across health, community, and family services, all grounded in culture, care, and connection.

About the role
We are looking for a dynamic Aboriginal Health Worker who is passionate about improving the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The successful candidate will provide high quality services including assessment, examination, treatment and case management, along with contributing to the development of models of holistic care incorporating continuity of care. There are roles available:

  • a full time permanent role
  • a full time fixed term contract until 30 June 2027 to focus on Women's Health to work as part of the Congenital Syphilis Prevention Program

What you'll be doing

  • Provide health screening for clients in keeping with scope of practice
  • Connecting and yarning with clients and families to the clinic to collect, collate and update their stories
  • Provide health information and education to clients which promotes autonomy and choice
  • Work alongside stakeholders and educators to provide health assessments in local school.

About You

You’re someone who:

  • Builds strong, respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Brings experience in working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health
  • Is passionate about making a positive impact and supporting others with heart and purpose

Essential selection criteria

  • Minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their health
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and to effectively engage with community built on mutual respect and regard
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy including proficient keyboard and data entry skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to work independently and to demonstrate initiative

Requirements

  • A Blue Card for working with children ('No Card No Start' policy applies)
  • National police check
  • Current drivers' license (minimum Ps).
    • IDENTIFIED POSITION - To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. A Confirmation of Aboriginality will need to be provided.
