The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and monitoring complex plant equipment and systems to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations across all stages of production. This role suits an experienced operator with a strong technical background, sound analytical ability, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. You will thrive in a fast-paced, process-driven environment where attention to detail and operational integrity are paramount.

## Key Responsibilities

- Operate and control specialised equipment used in continuous and batch processing to manufacture refined petroleum products, process natural gas, and blend petroleum base stocks into commercial fuels, lubricating oils, and asphalt
- Monitor and manage the preparation, accurate measuring, and controlled feeding of raw materials and processing agents into plant systems in accordance with operational specifications
- Conduct regular patrols and thorough inspections of equipment and facilities to verify proper functioning, identify potential issues early, and adjust operating controls as required
- Collect, analyse, and interpret operational samples, instrument readings, and test data to ensure product quality and process integrity, recording all findings accurately
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date production records, including quantities transferred, blending activities, and pumping operations, ensuring full traceability and compliance
- Monitor equipment performance continuously and promptly identify malfunctions or deviations from standard operating parameters, coordinating with maintenance teams to schedule and facilitate timely repairs
- Perform routine operating tests on plant equipment and systems to verify performance benchmarks are being met and to support ongoing preventative maintenance programmes
- Prepare clear and accurate written reports on equipment performance, instrument readings, and switching operations, ensuring records meet internal and regulatory standards
- Adhere strictly to workplace health and safety procedures, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with site-specific safety management systems
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, supervisors, and fellow operators to support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain seamless shift handovers
- Respond promptly and professionally to plant upsets or emergency situations, following established procedures to minimise risk to personnel, equipment, and the environment

## Required Qualifications & Skills

- Proven experience in a gas, petroleum, or related process plant operations role within the oil and gas, resources, or petrochemical industry
- Sound understanding of continuous and batch processing operations, including equipment controls, instrumentation, and plant monitoring systems
- Demonstrated ability to analyse operational data, interpret readings, and make informed decisions to maintain safe and efficient production
- Strong proficiency in maintaining accurate production records, writing operational reports, and managing documentation to a professional standard
- Solid knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation, including hazard identification, risk management, and permit-to-work systems
- Ability to identify and respond to equipment faults and abnormal operating conditions in a calm, methodical manner
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise clearly across operational and technical teams
- Physical fitness and ability to undertake regular site patrols, inspections, and hands-on operational duties in an industrial environment
- Competency in using computerised control systems and relevant site-based software platforms

## Preferred Qualifications

- Certificate III or IV in Process Plant Operations or a relevant trade qualification in the resources or oil and gas sector
- Formal certification in hazardous area operations or competencies in gas processing and petroleum refining
- Experience operating SCADA or distributed control systems (DCS) within a process plant environment
- Current Senior First Aid certificate and relevant site safety tickets such as Working at Heights, Confined Space Entry, or Gas Testing
- Familiarity with Australian oil and gas regulatory frameworks and relevant industry standards

## Why Join Us?

- Be part of a well-established, safety-first organisation operating across major Australian resource projects, with a strong culture of respect, integrity, and professional pride
- Access ongoing training, upskilling opportunities, and clear career progression pathways within a growing and technically progressive operations environment
- Benefit from a highly competitive salary package with additional superannuation contributions and potential performance-based incentives
