As part of our Biomedical Engineering team, you will contribute to a diverse range of research, development and clinical support activities. You will help develop and support biomedical technologies that are safe, effective, reliable and available when researchers, clinicians and patients need them most.
Working alongside experienced professionals, you will gain valuable hands-on experience across biomedical research and medical device development, as well as the preventive and remedial maintenance of essential biomedical equipment and systems.

About the role:
Reporting to the Technical Manager some of your duties for the role will include:
Participating in the technical development of new electrical and mechanical equipment, software and procedures to support medical research and improve patient care
Contributing technical analysis and practical engineering support to research, development and clinical projects
Undertaking planned maintenance, inspections, testing and functional checks to support the effective delivery of preventive maintenance services for biomedical devices and systems
Assisting with technical investigation, troubleshooting and remedial maintenance of biomedical equipment and systems.
Supporting processes that ensure biomedical devices and systems continue to meet applicable technical and safety requirements, including the scheduling, maintenance and rotation of equipment used across SALHN
Participating in technical forums, conferences, working groups and committees that contribute to the advancement of biomedical engineering practices and technologies
Developing your professional and technical capabilities through exposure to a broad range of biomedical engineering activities
Potential opportunity for full-time employment at the completion of the contract, subject to organisational requirements and applicable recruitment processes
About you:
You will bring, or be developing, a combination of the following qualifications, knowledge and capabilities:
A diploma or degree-level qualification in Biomedical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Applications may also be considered from students in the final year of a relevant degree, where an appropriate employment pathway is available
An understanding of regulatory, quality and technical requirements relevant to biomedical devices and systems
Experience, knowledge or demonstrated interest in engineering research and development
The ability to undertake technical analysis, troubleshoot problems and contribute to the resolution of technical issues during equipment development, testing or maintenance
Sound problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate technical problems, situations and information, identify appropriate solutions and make effective use of technical resources
Experience, knowledge or demonstrated capability in the preventive and remedial maintenance of technical equipment.
The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
The ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work effectively in a dynamic environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment and liaise with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
This is a single vacancy, with two possible appointment classifications. The successful applicants will be appointed in the position appropriate to their skills, qualifications, and experience.
