About the Department / Program
The Monash Health Familial Cancer Centre provides Genetic Counselling, assessment and in some cases genetic testing for individuals and families who have been diagnosed with cancer or have a family history of cancer. We are located in McCulloch House at Monash Health in Clayton and have clinics at Morrabbin, Clayton and Berwick.
About the Role
Join our team as a Genetic Counsellor on a permanenet part time basis (2 days per week, 30.2 hours a fortnight) with the possibility of extra days to work at McCulloch House based at Monash Health, Clayton. In this role, you will be guided under the leadership of the Senior Genetic Counsellor/Unit Manager and working with the broader Familial Cancer Centre team.
Days will be negotiated based on the successful applicants.
About You
To be successful in this healthcare role, you will be required to and bring the following demonstrated skills, experience, and attributes:
Provision of genetic counselling to individuals seeking information about their family history of cancer (including clinic coordination, intake and follow up) in line with current standards of care
Work in conjunction with other FCC team members, clinical geneticists, other medical specialists, medical genetics fellows, laboratory staff, and genetic counsellors
Participate in education activities including education of health professionals and other groups
Participate in research opportunities, within Monash Health, and with external stakeholders
Effective liaison with specialist services and medical units within the hospital network
Liaise with community support agencies and support groups and refer as appropriate
Liaise with other Family Cancer Genetic Centres to ensure the appropriate care of families
Liaison with diagnostic laboratories
Liaison with the CCV register for verifications
Register individuals in the Victorian Family Cancer Registry (CCV)
Documentation of patient contacts and details in appropriate medical records
Collection of statistics and auditing of the genetic counselling service
Commitment to ongoing medical genetics and counselling supervision and participation in on-going education and professional development through Genetic Health Services Victoria
Commitment to attaining Part 2 certification in genetic counselling (HGSA)
Perform other genetic counselling duties as required by Unit Manager or Director
Will require a police check and working with children check
Will be required to travel to various clinic sites for provision of genetic counselling services
