About the role

The Assistant Curator is part of Council’s Experiences and Partnerships team and supports the curation, development and delivery of exhibitions and accompanying public programs. Working closely with the Arts Curator, this role contributes to high‑quality, accessible arts experiences through exhibition coordination, project support, research, administration and stakeholder collaboration.

The role is responsible for:
  • Support the curation, development and delivery of Council’s exhibition program
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of accessible, exhibition‑related public programs
  • Support the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions across Council cultural venues
  • Support the delivery of public art components related to gallery exhibitions
  • Build and maintain relationships with artists, cultural organisations and key stakeholders
  • Contribute to audience engagement initiatives that promote inclusive practice and participation
  • Provide administrative, research and copywriting support to the Arts Curator
  • Assist with the development and delivery of exhibition publications
About you

The successful applicant will need these essential qualifications (or experience), knowledge and skills to carry out this position:

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Arts Administration, Fine Arts, Curatorship, Museum Studies, or a related discipline, combined with relevant experience; or alternatively, demonstrated equivalent experience in the field.
  • Demonstrated experience and a strong working knowledge of all stages of developing and delivering art exhibitions, preferably within contemporary visual art and cultural contexts.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a proven ability to effectively manage projects and deliver outcomes under pressure.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience editing and proofreading high quality written material, ensuring a consistently high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management systems.
  • Proven ability to prioritise competing demands and successfully manage multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated research skills in arts and culture.
