Full job description

Job Title: Parking and Local Laws Officer
Location: Local Council (Greensborough, Seaford, Altona, Horsham, Coolaroo & Keilor Park)

Employment Type: Casual (38hrs a week, with potential for full-time permanent positions)

About the Role:

We are seeking a proactive and community-focused Local Laws Officer to help protect public safety, amenity and wellbeing through education, engagement and compliance activities.

This diverse role combines investigation, enforcement, animal management and customer service responsibilities. You will work closely with residents, businesses and community stakeholders to encourage voluntary compliance, resolve issues, and enforce relevant legislation where required.

This is an opportunity for a professional who enjoys working both independently and as part of a team, is confident managing challenging situations, and is committed to delivering positive outcomes for the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct parking patrols and enforce local laws across the municipality.
  • Investigate complaints, incidents and breaches of legislation, regulations and local laws.
  • Respond to community enquiries and provide accurate advice and education to residents and businesses.
  • Issue infringements, notices to comply, permits, warnings and other enforcement actions in accordance with legislative requirements.
  • Gather evidence, prepare reports, statements and court documentation, and provide evidence when required.
  • Conduct inspections and proactive compliance activities across the municipality.
  • Capture, transport and manage animals in accordance with relevant legislation and animal welfare standards.
  • Respond to animal-related complaints, incidents and emergencies.
  • Support the removal of impounded items, abandoned vehicles and other public safety hazards.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, investigations and enforcement activities.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive community outcomes.
  • Participate in weekend, after-hours, standby and emergency response rosters as required.

Key Requirements:

  • Certificate IV in Animal Control and Regulation, Statutory Compliance, Local Government, Regulatory Services or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in a regulatory, compliance, enforcement, animal management or community safety environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations and local laws.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong investigative, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • High attention to detail and a strong compliance focus.
  • Experience preparing reports, evidence and documentation to a high standard.
  • Ability to work independently in an outdoor environment and manage competing priorities.
  • Physically capable of undertaking field-based duties in varying weather conditions.
  • Sound computer skills, including experience using business systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Current Driver Licence.
