About the role
As an Authorised Officer, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Operational Group.
As a member of the Customer team, an Authorised Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day reporting of offences under the Transport Act with a focus on anti-social behaviour across a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays across Victoria.
Key accountabilities include:
Report all offences detected and submit relevant reports in an accurate; timely manner and ensure all reports are of the highest standard for successful prosecution to take place.
Provide timely written reports to the Team Leader – AOs of all security and anti-social related behavioural incidents that will be included in the monthly Executive Security Management Meetings.
Deterring anti-social behaviours / crime / vandalism / fare evasion by way of visible presence and reporting of offences under the Victorian Transport Act and Regulations on board trains and at railway stations or premises operated by V/Line.
Comply with appropriate approval authorities as specified in the “Manual of Responsibilities and Authorities.
Attend court as a witness, as required, in connection with the prosecution of suspects. Assist with Customer Service during special events.
Foster teamwork and establish professional working relationship with internal and external teams within V/Line.
Respond to network disruptions and incidents, as required including liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
Location & Travel Considerations
This intake of Authorised Officers (both Qualified and Non Qualified) will be specifically located out of Geelong Station with an expectation to travel the network as per business needs.
About you
You are a professional and customer-focused individual with strong communication, observation, and reporting skills. You can deter and respond to anti-social behaviour, safety incidents, and fare evasion while maintaining a visible and positive presence.
You are confident preparing accurate reports, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, and providing evidence when required. Most importantly, you are committed to creating a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for customers and employees.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
Located within 1 hr 80 Kms of Geelong for fatigue management requirements
Demonstrated experience managing confrontational situations with members of the public, using effective communication, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques while maintaining safety, professionalism, and compliance with relevant policies and procedures
Able to sign on at other locations within 80kms of home depot as required per operational requirements.
Able to commit to 10 weeks fulltime on-site training to obtain Authorised Officer Accreditation under Transport Act Victoria if not already held.
Able to commit to a rotating shift role, shifts include morning, afternoon and evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
