Full job description
Your Role
As a Driver in the Army, you’ll play a key role in the operation and management of sophisticated military vehicles in all conditions, over all kinds of terrain. You’ll get in the driver’s seat of Army’s heavy trucks and specialist vehicles where you’re integral to the logistics and supply chain movements in Army. You’ll be responsible for transporting cargo, personnel, equipment, and dangerous goods where they’re needed.
In the Army, you’ll be paid from day one to gain all the skills needed with extensive on-the-job training. You’ll enjoy a competitive salary, job security, opportunities for career progression, mateship, adventure and travel, all while making a difference to Australia.
Common Duties
- Driving specialist vehicles including G Wagons and Hawkei PMV-L
- Driving Army’s heavy utility trucks including the HX77 and 40M
- Driving loaded and unloaded vehicles in varied conditions and on all-terrain
- Delivering personnel, stores, equipment and Combat Service Support - utilising road, rail, sea and air transportation
- Camouflaging a vehicle
- Operating material handling equipment, such as forklifts, winches and cranes
- Supervising and assisting with loading and unloading of vehicles
- Conducting non-technical inspections
- Recovering damaged vehicles using vehicle recovery equipment
- Operating radio/communications equipment fitted to a vehicle
- Transporting dangerous goods
- General soldiering duties, such as manning defensive positions, patrolling, traffic control, camouflaging of vehicles and field equipment, and navigation

Competitive Salary + Generous Superannuation of 16.4%
Starting salary while training: $60,517 per year
Salary after completing training: $82,322 per year
Your salary will continue to increase based on your rank and years of service.
Location:
Once you have completed your training, you could be posted to one of the many Army bases and units across Australia. Most of these positions are in North QLD, South QLD, NSW, SA and the NT.

Eligibility
For this role, you must:
- Be at least 17 at the time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen, and have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Maths

- Hold a provisional or full Australian state or territory driver’s licence
- Be reasonably fit and healthy
