Disability Support Worker

ClaraCare Services Pty Ltd — In-home support — Casual — Victoria, Australia

About the Role

ClaraCare Services Pty Ltd is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and professional Disability Support Worker to provide in-home, person-centred support to NDIS participants on a casual basis across [suburb/region]. You will support individuals to build independence, participate in their community, and live the life they choose, in line with their NDIS plan and goals.

This role requires a valid driver’s licence and your own reliable, insured vehicle, as travel between client homes and the community is a core part of the job. Mileage and travel time are paid in line with the Award/Agreement (insert rate).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care, daily living support, and companionship in clients’ homes, in line with individual support plans
  • Assist with domestic tasks such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, and shopping
  • Support participants with community access, appointments, and social or recreational activities
  • Use safe manual handling techniques, including the correct use of hoists, slide sheets, and other mobility equipment as required
  • Respond to participants experiencing mental health challenges, psychosocial disability, or behaviours of concern with patience, de-escalation skills, and a trauma-informed approach
  • Follow individual behaviour support plans and escalate concerns to the relevant care team or coordinator
  • Maintain accurate, timely progress notes, incident reports, and documentation in line with NDIS Practice Standards
  • Drive participants to appointments, activities, or community outings in your own vehicle when required
  • Report any safety, wellbeing, or safeguarding concerns immediately in line with company policy and NDIS Code of Conduct
  • Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and participant dignity at all times

Essential Requirements — Compliance & Certifications

Candidates must hold, or be willing to obtain before starting, all of the following:

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (Victoria) — current and valid clearance (cannot commence work without this)
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) — current Victorian check
  • First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011) and CPR Certificate — current
  • Manual Handling / Safe Manual Handling training certificate (or willingness to complete prior to starting)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module (“Quality, Safety and You”) — completion certificate
  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or equivalent qualification (highly regarded; equivalent experience considered)
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence and a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle
  • Right to work in Australia (visa or citizenship evidence)
  • Comprehensive vehicle insurance (CTP at minimum; third party/comprehensive preferred)

Skills & Experience

  • Prior experience in disability support, aged care, mental health support, or a related community services role
  • Demonstrated understanding of person-centred practice and the NDIS Code of Conduct
  • Confident and safe in the use of manual handling equipment (hoists, slide sheets, transfer boards)
  • Skilled in supporting people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health conditions, with a calm, non-judgemental, de-escalation-focused approach
  • Strong written communication skills for case notes and incident reporting
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and genuine empathy for people with disability
