Description & Requirements

Be part of a friendly team that prepares mail for delivery, supporting Posties to deliver an essential service that communities rely on every day.

Being in our warehouses at Australia Post means keeping active, working with a crew that’s got your back, and knowing the work you do really matters. It’s essential work with plenty of variety which means no two days are ever quite the same. We take safety seriously and look out for your wellbeing because you should be going home the same way you came to work.

About the opportunity

As a Mail Sorting Officer, you’ll be based at a Delivery Centre, supporting the preparation of mail so it’s ready for delivery the next day. Your work includes assisting with the processing of letters, parcels and Express Post items, sorting mail that can’t be machine‑processed and helping load and unload mail from bags, trays and containers.

You’ll work across modern processing equipment and systems, using load‑shifting tools such as hand pallet devices and stackers in close collaboration with your team to keep mail moving safely and efficiently through the facility.

This is a strong entry‑level opportunity to learn how large‑scale operations work, build practical skills and contribute to a trusted service that communities rely on. With a focus on safety, teamwork and reliability, the experience gained in this role can open pathways to future opportunities across processing, delivery and logistics.

About you

  • Flexible and willing to work extra hours when needed.
  • Detail‑focused, reliable and able to handle mail and parcels up to 16kg.
  • Communicate clearly, work proactively and support teammates in busy environments.
  • Experience with pallet jacks or stackers is helpful but not essential.

What else is in it for you?

  • Work with a diverse, supportive team where you have opportunity to connect over both work and team social events
  • Working hours that gives you flexibility to make space for what’s important to you either before or after work
  • Your safety and wellbeing is prioritised above everything else, so you go home the same way you came to work
  • Opportunities for training, growth and development with pathways in facilities or other areas of the business
  • Discounts and offers on lots of your favourite brands via Post Perks for more cash in your pocket, plus access to other health and wellbeing resources

All walks, one route

It takes a lot of us to deliver for every Australian – and it’s important to us that our people behind the parcels reflect the people receiving them. We come from all walks. Different backgrounds, different ages, different genders, different sexualities and different abilities, but we all believe in the same purpose.

We welcome people all ages, genders and backgrounds – including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, LGBTQIA+ communities, and refugees. We’re a Disability Confident Recruiter, committed to making our hiring process and workplace inclusive and barrier-free. We’re also working hard to remove bias and build a gender-equitable experience for everyone who joins us. If you’ve got questions about accessibility, reach out to our Diversity & Inclusion team at inclusivecareers@auspost.com.au.
