Eastern Health

Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services and have a proud history of serving a diverse community.

Our Employee Value Proposition is “Being a part of Eastern Health means belonging to a welcoming team of healthcare experts”.

This statement aligns with our promise to our communities, patients, consumers and staff that we will be HEALTHIER TOGETHER. Bolder than a vision for the future, our promise calls us to action. We know that working together is the only way we can achieve what is necessary for a healthier future.

About the role

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Medical Scientist to join our team. In this role you will perform a range of diagnostic tests and procedures, both independently and under supervision.

You will be responsible for maintaining, operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, as well as performing quality control procedures for analysers in Chemistry, Haematology, Transfusion, and Coagulation. You will validate results with careful attention to clinically acceptable turn around times while identifying and addressing problems or inconsistencies when they arise.

You will participate in and attend relevant continuing education programs. In addition, you will assist in maintaining a safe working environment and ensure compliance with our quality management system.

This position requires participation in a 24/7 rotating roster, including on-call duties.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:
An AIMS recognised qualification in Medical Laboratory Science.
Knowledge and experience in all areas of a Core Laboratory (Chemistry, Haematology, Transfusion, Coagulation).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
The ability to work independently and collaboratively within our diverse team
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize workloads
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.

Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
