About the role
We’re looking for a detail‑oriented, organised and patient‑focused Preadmissions Assistant to join our Hospital Preadmissions team on a casual basis. Working across both our Toorak Gardens and Stepney sites, this role supports the department in an administrative capacity, ensuring all required documentation is accurate, complete and prepared so patients and the hospital are ready for upcoming procedures. The Preadmissions Department operates Monday to Friday, day shifts only, and as a casual employee you will be called upon as operational needs require, so reliable weekday availability is essential.
This is an administrative role focused on documentation, verification and coordination. It involves processing admission and consent forms, verifying information with VMO rooms and patients, preparing theatre lists, supporting clinical staff with required documentation, triaging and resolving enquiries, and maintaining the accuracy, integrity and confidentiality of patient records - it does not involve greeting or admitting patients to the hospital.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring previous administrative experience, ideally within a healthcare setting, with confidence managing high‑volume, confidential information and performing accurate data entry. You’ll be comfortable navigating electronic systems, preferably with exposure to PiMS, and have a sound understanding of medical terminology and the ability to interpret common terms used in preadmission documentation. Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with consistency and professionalism are essential.
If you enjoy supporting patients and clinical teams, take pride in delivering high‑quality, accurate and confidential administrative work, and value being part of a collaborative team that contributes to a smooth, safe and positive hospital experience, we’d love to hear from you. About us
Burnside Hospital is one of South Australia’s leading private healthcare providers, delivering high‑quality services and specialist clinics across our Toorak Gardens and Stepney sites. Each year, thousands of patients choose our hospital for their care, and we are committed to supporting them and their families with exceptional service grounded in empathy, respect and safety. Our values‑based approach emphasises safety and wellbeing, continuous learning and professional growth, and we take pride in fostering a positive, inclusive culture where every team member feels supported and valued.
Known for its strong community connection, often described as a “country hospital in the city”, Burnside Hospital is proud of our warm, welcoming environment and longstanding reputation for exceptional care. As a Burnside Hospital employee, you’ll enjoy the benefit of:
· A Healthy Work-Life Balance: We seek to provide you with an exceptional professional and work life, which is why we offer flexible working hours within a supportive environment that value both your professional and personal life.
· Convenience and Safety: Free street parking options available at our hospitals, located in the eastern suburbs close to the city.
· Career Development: We offer structured training programs, educational support, and development initiatives to help you build your capabilities and potential for rewarding and long-lasting careers and personal growth. We’re a stable and secure organisation with a reputation for quality service, big enough to provide opportunities while being small enough to know your name so you’ll feel seen and heard.
· Competitive Benefits: Our not-for-profit status allows us to offer salary-sacrificing arrangements where a portion of your income is allocated to pay for approved living expenses, meals, entertainment (up to $18,550), and vehicle novated leasing before your income tax is calculated, meaning you pay less income tax and have more money in your pocket.
· Wellbeing: We ensure our people are well supported through free counselling and physiotherapy assistance, pharmacy and health insurance discounts, free flu vaccinations, and generous leave entitlements.
· Peer Recognition: We value everyone's contributions, and our reward and recognition program is designed to celebrate the people who truly embody our values and make our workplace exceptional.
· Impactful Work: Working at Burnside Hospital means making a difference in the lives of the people we serve. You’ll be part of a team that is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to our patients every day.
All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory working with children check and pre-employment health assessment.
We may progress or appoint candidates prior to the closing date.
