Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Emergency Physician to join the Emergency department.


We are commencing a major service expansion as we prepare for our new Emergency Department, due for completion in 2029. The first stage of this expansion has provided this opportunity to join our passionate team and help shape the future of our service.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.


Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.


About the Role:

The Emergency Medicine Physician provides expert Emergency Care to patients presenting to the Northern Hospital Emergency Department (ED). They will be involved with the supervision and training of Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) working in the Emergency Department and work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe and kind care for our patients, together with colleagues on the ED floor and within inpatient teams.


To be successful in this role you have:

  • A Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine or eligibility for specialist registration in Australia.
  • Experience working within a busy Emergency Department, able to juggle competing demands of patient care, hospital access and education and supervision of Junior Medical Officers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and safely with staff and patients
  • A commitment to delivering safe, kind and patient-centred care with a focus on inclusivity and cultural safety, reflective of the communities that we serve
  • A passion for your non-clinical portfolio or special interest area and enthusiasm to contribute to service growth and development
