At Mission Australia, we support families impacted by alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges to strengthen relationships, improve wellbeing, and create safer, healthier futures. Through evidence-based, family-centred support, we help parents, carers and children build resilience, overcome barriers, and achieve positive, lasting outcomes.
As a Family Support Worker, you will use your case management expertise to provide trauma-informed, person-centred support to families affected by AOD issues. Working collaboratively with clients and partner agencies, you will develop individualised support plans, connect families with specialist services, and empower them to build stability, strengthen parenting capacity, and achieve their goals. This is a maternity cover position working 3 days a week preferably Wednesday to Friday.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Provide trauma-informed, person-centred case management to families impacted by alcohol and other drug (AOD) challenges
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop strengths-based, family-focused support plans
- Deliver individual and family support sessions using evidence-informed and culturally responsive approaches
- Support parents and carers to strengthen parenting capacity, improve family functioning, and create safe, nurturing home environments
- Assist clients to access AOD treatment services, mental health supports, housing, health care, financial assistance, and other community services
- Work collaboratively with specialist AOD providers and multidisciplinary stakeholders to coordinate integrated support
- Deliver outreach services to families within the community as required
- Advocate for families and empower them to build resilience, independence, and long-term wellbeing
- Maintain accurate case notes, client records, reports, and database information in accordance with organisational and funding requirements
- Contribute to program evaluation, quality improvement initiatives, and positive service outcomes through effective collaboration and reporting
Requirements for success
- Relevant degree with at least two years’ experience preferably in AOD space, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant industry experience
- Experience providing case management support to families facing multiple and complex challenges
- Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable individuals and families
- Ability to manage a diverse and complex caseload effectively
- Experience delivering specialised or complex interventions and support strategies
- Strong understanding of recovery-oriented and strengths-based practice approaches
- Commitment to person-centred support and achieving positive client outcomes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong administrative capability
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and exercise sound judgement
- Current Driver Licence, Working with Children Check and National Police Check, or willingness to obtain
