Reef Runner Charters is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Casual Deckhand to join our team in Cairns.
We are a locally owned, family-operated charter business, delivering exceptional reef and fishing tours with a strong focus on sustainability, reef care and professional service.
Charters are very diverse ranging from all types of fishing (reef, game, sport) to snorkelling, scuba diving, spearfishing, research/surveying, film/tv projects and local delivery trips.
About The Job:
As a deckhand, you will play a key role in both vessel operations and guest experience. You will assist customers with fishing techniques, set up and maintain gear, help manage catch, maintain vessel cleanliness, and support the skipper to ensure a safe, enjoyable and professional trip.
Full onboard safety training is provided, and all crew are expected to uphold high operational and safety standards.
Essential Requirements:
- Genuine passion for fishing - must be a keen angler
- Respect for the ocean and marine environment
- Confident communicating fishing techniques, species knowledge and reef information to guests
- Strong customer service and professional presentation
- Physically fit and capable of long hours outdoors
- Comfortable swimmer with prior snorkelling experience
- Reliable, punctual and proactive
Highly Regarded:
- Previous charter or boating experience
- Scuba Dive Instructor/Master qualification
- Coxswain/Deckhand qualifications
- First Aid & CPR certificate
- Recreational boat licence
