Personal and Family Support Worker
Part Time contract until 30/06/2027
George Town Tasmania
CatholicCare Tasmania is the primary social services agency of the Catholic Church across Tasmania. We have 60 years’ experience delivering a wide range of services and support to improve individual, family and community wellbeing. Our services are available and open to all with a particular focus on families, young people and children.
Context: The Family and Relationship Services (FaRS) Program is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Social Services, with the expectation that CatholicCare Tasmania will also apply a fee-for-service policy to clients, in accordance with DSS Guidelines. CatholicCare Tasmania, as a Child Inclusive Agency, is committed to working in the best interests of children and young people.
The program aims to assist all families, couples, individuals and children, though we prioritise those most disadvantaged or at risk. The program provides counselling, group work, mediation/support for separated families, specialised family violence interventions, family law counselling, and family relationship skills and training.
Summary of Role :
The Personal and Family Support Worker (PFSW) position is funded by the Tasmania Government Department of Premier and Cabinet to deliver, throughout the George Town Local Government Area and associated catchments, timely counselling and support to children, adults, families in crisis and also provide parenting advice, education and skills development.
This position has an outcomes focus on clients becoming empowered and self-managing in the community. The promotion of health and wellbeing and early intervention when needed to facilitate access to a network of community sector supports and services for clients which is relevant to their care needs. The service will also promote the safety, stability and wellbeing of vulnerable children, young people and their families, thereby avoiding unnecessary involvement of children and families with the statutory child safety system.
About You:
- Commitment to the vision, mission, and values of CatholicCare Tasmania as informed by the Archbishop’s Charter and a broad understanding of the operation of the Catholic Church in Tasmania.
- Detailed knowledge of issues impacting children, young people and their families, including family violence, mental health, substance abuse and poverty, with a minimum of three years of clinical experience.
- Demonstrated experience and training in working with vulnerable families, which may include working with children individually.
- Demonstrated knowledge of working in small communities, and the ability to build and maintain professional networks.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, facilitating and evaluating group work programs.
- Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team environment, and to network effectively, including strong resourcefulness and organisation skills.
