Gunnedah Public School is a Connected Community School and has a student population of 201, 59% of whom identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The school consists of stage-based classes, one MC class, and multiple speciality spaces dedicated to supporting a variety of student needs. Many of our students come from a low socio-economic background, and the school attracts significant equity funding to improve the outcomes for those who attend Gunnedah Public.
Student participation and achievement is encouraged in the academic, cultural and sporting areas of the curriculum and recognised in both the school and local community. Through our situational analysis, we have identified a need to use data-driven practices that ensure all students have access to stage-appropriate learning.
The Learning and Support Teacher is a predominantly off-class position that will play a key role in promoting the effective inclusion of students with diverse learning needs in the school community. This position focuses on ensuring equitable access and meaningful participation for students who require varying levels of support across the curriculum and learning environment. The role involves close collaboration with teachers, families, specialists, students, and support staff to design, implement, and regularly review differentiated teaching and learning adjustments that foster students' success.

    Selection Criteria

    • Approval to teach students with learning and support needs primary and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs primary in regular classes.
    • Capacity to provide specialist assistance to students in regular classes with additional learning and support needed and their teachers.
    • Approval to teach, with commitment and ability to design, implement and evaluate evidence-informed, differentiated literacy and numeracy programs that improve student learning outcomes, with a strong ability to analyse data to monitor progress and measure impact.
    • Well-developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage with students, staff, parents and external agencies.
    • Proven understanding of NCCD and funding requirements and the implementation of effective adjustments to support diverse learners and strengthen inclusive classroom practice.
    • Proven understanding on Aboriginal Education initiatives that strengthen student engagement, wellbeing, cultural identity and attendance and the ability to form meaningful relationships with students, families and community.
