About the Medical Education Unit
The Medical Education Unit (MEU) provides accredited educational programs, facilitates adequate supervision and monitoring of clinical performance, and provides mentoring and personal support for prevocational medical practitioners (doctors who are in their first to third year of training after graduation from medical school) and international medical graduates. The unit works in close collaboration with James Cook University and with Clinical Directors in the Mackay Health Service District to support the learning objectives of prevocational doctors.
Your opportunity
The Senior Medical Officer Education (SMO Education) provides leadership in clinical education to mentor and support the MEU education programs.
This position reports to the Director Clinical Training.
Your role
Develop, Lead, Implement and review the yearly Formal Education Program congruent to National Curriculum Framework for Junior Doctors and the Mackay Medical Education Framework.
Facilitate the Formal Education Program and / or source lead clinical expertise in the delivery of Formal Education Program.
Develop, Lead, Implement and Review the yearly PGY1 and PGY2 Orientation primary focus of Clinical Skills, Mandatory Clinical Training, Clinical Simulations and Clinical Responsiveness.
Work collaboratively with the assigned Medical Education Officer (MEOs) to redress Interns in distress.
Provide expert clinical knowledge and guidance to the MEU.
Develop a robust yearly Grand Rounds which aligns to the clinical goals of the Hospital and Health Service (HHS).
Provide clinical mentorship to identified PGY1/PGY2 and International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
Assist MEOs to develop and implement PGY1/PGY2 and/or IMGs Improving Performance Action Plans (IPAP).
Actively engage with PGY1/PGY2 or International Medical Graduates that are placed on an IPAP.
Provide clinical guidance to Junior Medical Officer Forum (JMOF), Prevocational Medical Education Committee (PMEC) Assessment Review Panel (ARP and the Assessment Appeals Committee (AAP).
Liaise and collaborate with the Rural SMO, MEU to provide a consistent education experience to PGY1s and PGY2s placed in Rural hospitals including Proserpine, Sarina and Bowen Hospitals.
Provide support to Clinical Supervisors to provide clinical feedback to PGY1/PGY2 consistent with Entrustable Professional Activity.
Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) Requirements: It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough).This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License.
