About the Role
This is a unique opportunity for you to work in the initial development of school processes for a foundation secondary school, growing one year level each year from Year 7 in 2024 to Year 12 in 2029.
Given the school is in the third year of establishment, the teaching, learning and student support practices are based on the latest evidence-based research. The brand-new facilities support 21st century skills and these teaching and learning practices.
You will be supported by education support staff, teachers, and leaders in a highly collaborative workplace, with opportunities for professional development and career advancement

As a member of Staff, you will have input and play a vital role in the implementation of school processes within your area.

About You
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled education support staff to contribute to the success of a high achieving secondary school. As a school we believe that by providing students with a greater level of wellbeing support they are most likely to experience improved academic outcomes. The ideal candidate should possess a range of characteristics that will contribute to the success of our students and uphold the school's commitment to excellence in education. Education Support Staff will be responsible for delivering support for the school staff and student learning environment.

Responsibilities

Library Assistant
  • Answer phone queries, take messages and refer queries to appropriate staff as necessary
  • Instruct Library & Resource Centre users in respect to library rules and procedures
  • Ensure that students have a note or class pass as they enter the Resource Centre
  • Ensure work area around the circulation desk and library floor is kept clean and well maintained, including all resources
  • Operation of circulation and loan systems including charging and discharging of loans, handling reserves, overdue books/notices and other related material
  • Support the production of library displays to promote engagement with the library space
  • Shelving, retrieving, processing, researching and maintaining books, periodicals and non-book materials to ensure resources are in place
  • Shelf reading ¿ ensuring correct order of fiction and non-fiction collection
  • Maintain current collection with cleaning & repair of books; printing new labels and adding genre stickers where required
  • Assist with the annual Library Stocktake procedures and generate reports·
  • Assist staff with orientation programs, classes and activities held in the Resource Centre
  • Assist staff with the operation of Literacy reading classes
  • Knowledge of young adult reading materials to assist classes with reading selection
  • Assist in celebration events and programs e.g. Book Week & Premiers reading challenge
  • Preparation of material for binding and laminating.
  • Support the Study Hall program 4 afternoons per week, Monday to Thursday until 4.30pm

ICT Network Support
  • Assist in solving common ICT related problems for students on a daily basis
  • Provide support to students in password management and network access
  • Assist in notebook borrowing programs, ICT help desk and digital technology resources for student, staff and classroom use
  • Cleaning, labelling and sorting of IT devices as required and directed by the ICT Network Manager
  • Assist staff and students with photocopier use including clearing paper jams, replacement of supplies etc.
  • Assist in the organisation and maintenance of specialist collections including audio-visual material and equipment, kits, periodicals, class sets and notebooks
  • Check bookings are in place before resource centre equipment is circulated and assist staff with the booking system
  • General assistance to staff in relation to audio visual and other equipment including data projectors, TV¿s, speaker systems and cameras
  • Notify the College¿s ICT Manager of any faults found in audio visual/ ICT equipment

Other Duties
  • Perform general education support staff duties and as required in the event of other ES staff absences perform replacement duties
  • Ensure work areas are in a clean, safe and orderly condition at all times.
  • Ensure professionalism, efficiency, cheerfulness, reliability, politeness and teamwork are implemented, followed and supported at all times.
  • At all times working to create a professional environment, which upholds and displays the schools values of high expectations, collaboration, respect, and responsibility.
  • Undertake other duties relevant to the field of responsibility as requested by the College Executive
  • Adhering to the College¿s dress code policy will be required.
  • Adhering to the College¿s style guide for the development and publication of correspondence, to ensure a consistent presentation of all school documents.

Other Information

This is a full time position, working 5 days per week. Working hours are 8.30am to 4.36pm including a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.
Education Support Class positions include 50 days (pro rata) of annual and additional paid leave per year which is taken during the school holidays as per the Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VGSA).

If you are, then Yarrabing Secondary College is looking for Education Support Staff to join the school from Term 1 2027.
About Us
Yarrabing Secondary College opened in Term 1 2024 and provides the growing local population with great educational opportunities close to home. In 2026 Yarrabing Secondary College had a student population of 680 students in Year 7, 8 & 9. The college will progressively grow by one year level thereafter. In 2027, we will have Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 students only. In 2027 it is anticipated that there will be provision of a small number of VCE studies to its accelerated Year 10 students that the college is currently in the process of accrediting for. By 2029, the college will provide an extensive senior school offering to its senior students of traditional VCE subjects, as well as VM, VPC and VET.
Yarrabing Secondary College is located 29 kilometres west of Melbourne, in the suburb of Aintree. When fully established in 2029, the school is anticipated to have 1400 students enrolled from Year 7 to 12 and 130 school staff members.
Our school grounds are close to planned parklands, sporting facilities, and we are surrounded by a supportive community. Most students that will attend our school live locally and would tend to walk or ride their bike to school.
Our school will be culturally diverse with many of our students having a language background other than English (LOTE) spoken in the family home, with the largest LOTE languages being Hindi and Punjabi. We are proud of our diversity and our inclusive school community.
