About the Pathology department
Austin Health Pathology is a dynamic and growing service delivering high-quality diagnostic testing across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. Supporting a number of health services, GPs and specialists, we provide a comprehensive range of pathology services through our network of laboratories, collection centres and point-of-care services.
As we continue to expand across regional Victoria, we are investing in innovation, service improvement and data-driven decision making to support the delivery of safe, efficient and sustainable pathology services.
About the role
Austin Health Pathology is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Clinical Scientist to undertake a specialised scientific role within Biochemistry, combining advanced scientific expertise, clinical interpretation and problem-solving to support high-quality diagnostic services across our pathology network.
Reporting to the Director of Chemical Pathology and to the Biochemistry Principal Scientist, this role provides specialist clinical scientific support for biochemistry services at the Austin Health Pathology network. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to clinical governance, assay development, service improvement, education and research within a progressive and expanding pathology service.
A regular day will see you:
- Providing specialist scientific advice to clinicians and healthcare professionals regarding biochemical investigations and result interpretation.
- Supporting the review of complex patient results and contributing to critical result management processes.
- Leading or contributing to assay verification, validation and implementation projects.
- Investigating analytical quality issues and supporting accreditation and compliance activities.
- Analysing laboratory data, quality indicators and workload trends to support evidence-based service improvement.
- Contributing to point-of-care testing governance and quality programs.
- Supporting education, training and professional development of laboratory staff and registrars.
- Participating in research, service innovation and scientific presentations or publications.
About you
You are a highly motivated and experienced laboratory scientist with deep expertise in Biochemistry and a passion for delivering excellence in patient care through quality pathology services.
You will be comfortable working collaboratively with pathologists, clinicians and scientific staff, providing expert advice and translating complex scientific information into practical clinical outcomes.
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- 5+ years' experience in Biochemistry or Chemical Pathology within a medical laboratory setting.
- Expertise in analytical troubleshooting, assay performance review and interpretation of complex laboratory information.
- Experience providing scientific advice to clinicians and healthcare professionals.
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems, accreditation requirements and regulatory standards within pathology.
- Experience in assay development, verification, validation and implementation.
- Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
