Join one of Australia's leading healthcare companies, committed to supporting quality, affordable and accessible healthcare for all Australians.
Every pathology sample collected helps us deliver high-quality diagnostic services that help clinicians make informed decisions and support better health outcomes. Whether you're an experienced Pathology Collector or eager to pursue pathology collection as a career, this is a rewarding role where you can make a positive impact in your local community.
About The Role
A Pathology Collector plays an important role in a patient's healthcare journey. As a frontline representative of the organisation, you'll interact directly with patients to take blood samples, collect other pathology specimens and perform diagnostic tests. You'll help create a positive patient experience while ensuring all samples are collected and handled accurately in accordance with documented procedures and quality requirements.
Key responsibilities:
- Welcome patients, provide waiting room management and explain collection procedures with care and professionalism
- Perform venepuncture procedures (taking blood samples directly from patients) and collect other pathology specimens
- Conduct diagnostic tests such as ECGs, blood pressure monitoring and Holter monitoring as required
- Maintain accurate patient records and registers of specimens collected
- Prepare, pre-sort and package specimens ready for transport to laboratories
- Manage patient communications and take payments where required
- Maintain collection supplies and a safe, clean and professional environment
About You
Previous experience as a Pathology Collector will be highly regarded, however, we also welcome applications from those with a background in healthcare, aged care, disability support, or customer-facing roles where providing a high-level of care and service is a core part of the role.
- Previous pathology collection experience (highly regarded) OR a background in healthcare, aged care, disability support, nursing or customer service
- Certificate III in Pathology Collection (preferred)
- Strong communication skills and comfortable building trust and rapport with patients
- The ability to follow procedures, manage priorities and work independently
- A willingness to learn, adapt and contribute as part of a team environment
- A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC), or willingness to obtain one prior to commencing employment
- Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements, including Hepatitis B
- Live within a 45km radius of the collection centre/location (25km for metropolitan areas)
This role requires completion of a 6-week paid training program designed to build the skills and knowledge needed to succeed as a Pathology Collector. Training requires full-time availability for the first 2 weeks, followed by a minimum of 25 hours per week for the remaining 4 weeks. Training is delivered internally by Healius as part of your onboarding and may be accelerated based on previous experience.
