Emergency Department CMO (Career Medical Officer)
Coastal NSW | August 2026 Start
An excellent opportunity is available for an Emergency Department Career Medical Officer (CMO) to join a busy regional hospital on the NSW South Coast, commencing August 2026. Interviews are currently being scheduled, and the department is keen to connect with experienced doctors who enjoy working in a fast-paced Emergency environment.
This modern district hospital services a rapidly growing coastal community and provides a comprehensive range of services including Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Mental Health. The Emergency Department operates 24/7 and manages a diverse case mix, offering strong exposure to acute presentations including trauma, medical emergencies, paediatrics and mental health. CMOs play an important role within the department, working closely with FACEMs, registrars and nursing teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
This position is well suited to doctors seeking long-term stability in Emergency Medicine, while maintaining a good work-life balance in a supportive clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assessment, stabilisation and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department
- Participation in a 24/7 rotating roster including evenings, nights and weekends
- Supervision and support of junior medical staff where appropriate
- Performing emergency procedures and participating in resuscitation of critically ill patients
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and contributing to patient handovers
- MBBS or equivalent qualification
- AHPRA General Registration (or eligibility)
- Minimum 3–4 years postgraduate experience, including Emergency Department experience
- Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication and clinical decision-making skills
- Commitment to professional development
- Stable CMO position within a supportive Emergency Department
- Exposure to a broad and interesting Emergency caseload
- Strong collaboration with experienced FACEMs and senior registrars
