Locum Paediatric Anatomical Pathologist

About the Role
This is a Fixed Term Full Time position for 12 months at up to 1.0 FTE / 80 hours per fortnight within the Department of Anatomical Pathology. There will be the potential for this position to transition to an ongoing appointment subject to meeting performance targets.
You will contribute to all aspects of the diagnostic service as a member of the Anatomical Paediatric Pathology Team and be responsible for providing excellent clinical service including the reporting of a range of paediatric pathology specimens from all organ systems. You may have experience in public hospital anatomical pathology, transplant pathology and/or paediatric pathology however applicants with all levels of experience are still encouraged to apply.
What you’ll achieve:
- Be responsible for the efficient and accurate reporting of biopsies in a timely manner.
- Participate in clinicopathological meetings and be available for consultation on clinical problems under supervision by the Department Head or deputy.
- Participate in the department on call roster as required.
Classification for this position will range from Specialist Year 1 to senior Specialist Year 9 HM33-HM41 (base salary $262,999 to $361,629 per annum, plus superannuation)
Your skills and experience:
- Eligible for full registration as a Specialist Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia or equivalent to qualify for APP status.
- Experience and training in the discipline of Anatomical Pathology
- Experience and/or an interest in formally developing skills in paediatric anatomical pathology.
- Experience working in a tertiary/quaternary level care public hospital

About the Department of Anatomical Pathology at Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH)
We are a paediatric service based at the Royal Children’s Hospital that will be working under a Melbourne Health-led pathology service from late 2026 and provide specialist paediatric histopathology, reporting around 6000 cases per year.

- Employees are required to undertake a National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Check prior to commencing employment
- Employees are required to maintain a valid Working with Children’s Check throughout their employment
- A current, full drivers licence for the State of Victoria which is appropriate for the type of vehicle being driven, and comply with any restrictions on their licence (e.g. wearing glasses) while undertaking hospital duties (If applicable)
- Employees are required to maintain compliance with RCHs “Staff Immunisation - Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases” procedure.

Pathology services from the Royal Children’s Hospital, the Royal Women’s Hospital, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and the Royal Melbourne Hospital will come together to strengthen the scope, scale, and reach of pathology services across the Parkville precinct to benefit all Victorians. This role will be part of the new centre of excellence that will be led and employed by Melbourne Health.
