Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne and statewide. We have a highly engaged, diverse and collaborative workforce that is unified by our goal to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.
About the Anatomical Pathology department
Austin Health Pathology’s Department of Anatomical Pathology is a comprehensive service, providing specialty diagnostic expertise in a wide range of areas. Our range of expertise includes molecular diagnostics, gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disease, neuropathology, gynaecological pathology, skin, lung, urology, head and neck, breast, lymphoma, medical renal, endocrine, and cytology (gynaecological and non-gynaecological). We provide non-coronial adult and perinatal autopsy services (the latter includes membership of the Victorian Perinatal Autopsy Service). We employ more than 20 anatomical pathologists and 6 registrars.
The Department plays an important role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research, and is closely affiliated with Austin Health clinical departments, Bendigo Health, Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre, University of Melbourne, other Institutes and universities, and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.
About the role
We are seeking pathologists with experience in a range of common and specialised specimen types, including histology and cytology. Candidates with all ranges of experience will be considered; preference given to those with expertise in areas of need (especially gynaecological and gastrointestinal pathology).
Actual case mix is determined by mutual agreement and your duties will include participation in multidisciplinary meetings (depending on hours worked, expertise and needs of the department), frozen section diagnosis and registrar supervision.
There is no requirement for after hours on-call. We have a large and diverse group of pathologists, and a culture of supporting members of the team.
About you
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
- Registered Medical Practitioner in Australia with AHPRA.
- Current Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia or equivalent.
- Appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Anatomical Pathology.
- Commitment to and ongoing activity in research and/or clinical audit activities.
- Teamwork and experience working in a complex fast-paced environment are essential.
Our benefits
Working at Austin Health means enjoying a strong sense of purpose, engaging in meaningful work every day. Our people also receive a variety of rewarding benefits, including:
- Greater take-home pay through generous salary packaging, for living expenses, meals, and holiday accommodation.
- A suite of wellness initiatives designed to support you, including discounted fitness memberships and special offers on health insurance, and a comprehensive wellbeing program.
- Onsite childcare at Austin Hospital, easy access via public transport and car parking options.
- Mentoring and career development opportunities.
