Flow Cytometry & Cellular Therapies Laboratories- Full time, permanent, Grade 1 or 2 Medical Scientist role (depending on previous experience)
- Monday to Friday core hours, with on-call

About Haematology, Flow Cytometry & Cellular Therapies
The Haematology department is committed to promoting the highest levels of quality pathology services to the Austin hospital and surrounding health care facilities.
Working as a reference laboratory for regional sites, the Heidelberg laboratory receives samples from many different specialities including maternity and neonates, liver and kidney transplantation, haematology and oncology and the emergency department.
The Cellular Therapies laboratory processes autologous and allogeneic stem cell collections, Donor Lymphocyte Infusions and granulocytes. Collections are cryopreserved and stored onsite, or transfused fresh to the patient.
Flow Cytometry and Cellular Therapies work hand in hand as one department within Haematology, working along side Haematology, Coagulation and Transfusion, with an opportunity for the successful member of staff to train in routine Haematology.
About the role
Reporting to the Principal Scientist, as a Grade 1 or 2 Scientist you will work within our Flow Cytometry and Cellular Therapies laboratories as part of the haematology team, who are passionate about providing best practice care for our patients.
A regular day will see you:
- Ensuring the smooth running of the Beckman Coulter DxFlex flow cytometers throughout the day, including maintenance and running / checking QC
- Completing all aspects of immunophenotyping, including sample preparation, staining, acquisition, and data analysis using established protocols
- Analysing flow cytometry data, identifying abnormal cell populations, and interpreting results
- Perform stem cell processing, cryopreservation, thawing and related procedures according to standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
- Operate and maintain specialised equipment such as controlled-rate freezers, LN2 storage tanks and sterile tubing welders.
About you
You will be someone who has excellent communication skills and a commitment to quality in Haematology, Flow Cytometry and Cellular Therapies. You will bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine or equivalent and/or relevant science degree
- Knowledge of Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with colleagues including nursing and medical staff
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team
- Experience in Flow Cytometry and Haematology
