About Our Team

The Alfred Pathology Service (APS) is key to providing integrated and timely diagnostic capabilities as part of the largest public pathology laboratory network in Victoria.

Alfred Health supports the local community while addressing complex state-wide needs, including trauma, organ transplantation and HIV/AIDS diagnostics. APS conducts all pathology testing for multiple hospitals, offering a comprehensive range of services through five specialized units: Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology, and Human Molecular Pathology.

APS is committed to education and professional development, providing excellent learning opportunities for students and clinicians. Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership and are delivering pathology services at Western Health (WH), which includes, collection centres, branch laboratories at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital and point-of-care services. We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services.

Position Summary

The Central Specimen Processing Clerk supports the efficient operation of laboratory and collection services by accurately preparing and registering pathology specimens, performing routine laboratory tasks, maintaining equipment, and providing clerical support to ensure the timely and smooth processing of patient referrals, while maintaining compliance with quality and safety standards.

About You

Qualifications Required:

  • Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen handling, data entry, and laboratory procedures.
  • Experience in a laboratory or clinical environment preferred, with a stable employment history in laboratory or industrial settings.
  • Competence in handling pathology specimens (e.g., blood, urine) safely and in accordance with protocols.
  • Familiarity with computer use and keyboarding; touch-typing skills highly regarded.
  • Ability to organise, prioritise, and manage daily tasks efficiently, both independently and under supervision.
