About Red Cross
Australian Red Cross is part of the world’s largest humanitarian movement. We support and empower people and communities in times of vulnerability. We act for humanity.
About the role
The Stories Editor is our in-house storyteller, bringing to life the impact of our people, programs and services through the experiences of those we support. Driven by curiosity and a passion for human-centred storytelling, you will build strong relationships across the organisation to uncover and develop a rich pipeline of stories that demonstrate our impact.
Skilled at conducting sensitive interviews with people from diverse backgrounds, including program participants, volunteers and staff, you will gather stories in person, over the phone and online, transforming insights and narratives into compelling content across multiple channels.
From long-form articles to short-form digital content and video scripts, you will create engaging, emotionally resonant stories that inspire action and deepen understanding of our impact. As an experienced writer and editor, you will ensure all content aligns with our brand voice and ethical storytelling principles.

Day to day you will
  • Research, interview and write engaging story content for use across multimedia, digital, campaign, email, social, web, print and internal communications channels.
  • Proactively identify storytelling opportunities that align with strategic priorities, campaigns and organisational objectives.
  • Collect content in the field through interviews, observations and stakeholder engagement, ensuring ethical storytelling principles are applied throughout the process.
  • Lead story development from briefing through to publication, including interviewing, writing, editing, scripting and approvals management.
Develop scripts and long-form copy for video, campaigns and creative content projects.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to ensure all content collection activities uphold people's dignity, safety and agency, meeting requirements for consent, privacy and child protection.
What you will bring
  • Significant experience as a copywriter, feature writer, journalist, content producer or Stories Editor within a creative, media, agency or purpose-led organisation.
  • Strong interviewing skills and the ability to build rapport quickly with people from diverse backgrounds, including those sharing sensitive or personal experiences.
  • Experience collecting content in the field, including conducting interviews, obtaining informed consent and managing ethical storytelling considerations.
  • Experience developing content for video, including scripting and collaboration with creative production teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes across a large and complex organisation.
  • Highly developed attention to detail and a strong understanding of brand voice, tone and editorial standards.
