Primary objective
To be part of the Ophthalmology team providing a timely and high quality ophthalmology service to the population of over
250,000 and visitors to the Top End.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Admit, manage and discharge patients from hospital under the supervision of the Specialist on duty with the aim of
providing the highest possible standards of care.
2. Promote and participate in recognised principles of clinical practice and case management.
3. Document all relevant information with regard to patient management utilising hard copy files and the computerised
information system as appropriate.
4. Participate in continuous medical education, professional development, peer review, research, teaching, quality
improvement activities and clinical audits as appropriate.
5. Provide supervision and training to junior medical staff and other clinical staff as appropriate.
6. Participate in routine and emergency after-hours care as rostered.
7. Participate in audit, risk management activities and research.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Eligible for general or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Have appropriate training and experience applicable to Ophthalmology.
3. At least twelve months experience as a Resident Medical Officer.
4. Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively as a team member in a
cross-cultural work environment.
5. An interest in and a commitment to improving Indigenous health.
6. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
