The Opportunity

The Children’s Diabetes Centre of The Kids Research Institute Australia, together with the Diabetes Service of Perth Children’s Hospital, is an integrated research and clinical centre. The key focus of our work is to improve the health of children, adolescents and young people living with type 1 diabetes and we are now looking for a motivated Research Assistant to join us.

Reporting to the Program Manager, you will be fundamental in providing research support and helping to ensure the efficient running of clinical research studies.

This will involve duties, such as:

• Assisting with recruitment and consent of eligible study participants.
  
• Handling and processing biological samples.
  
• Creation and maintenance of databases.
  
• Collection of study related data.
  
• Contributing to the analysis of study data.
  
Assisting in the preparation of reports, writing papers and presentations.

This is a varied role and a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a research environment, working alongside and learning from an experienced research team around you.

Based within Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, this full-time position will be offered for an initial 12-month period. Part-time (0.6 FTE – 0.8 FTE) will be considered for the right candidate.

About You

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor of Science or biomedical science and will have an interest in diabetes research coupled with great people skills and experience in a research environment.

The key to your success will be your demonstrated skills and experience in:

• Knowledge and experience in the use of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office suite.
  
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  
• Experience in data analysis and database management.
  
• Strong attention to detail and accurate data entry skills.
  
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with people both internally and externally.
  
Previous experience in participant recruitment will be highly regarded but is not essential for this role.
