Graduate Biologist

Location: Hobart, Tasmania

Position: Graduate Biologist

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Graduate Biologist to join our dedicated fertility team at Fertility Tasmania.

This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career scientist looking to develop their skills and build a rewarding career in assisted reproductive technology (ART) and clinical embryology.

Working alongside experienced embryologists and the wider clinical team, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality laboratory services while maintaining the highest standards of patient care, quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine IVF laboratory procedures under appropriate supervision
  • Support the preparation and handling of gametes and embryos
  • Assist with sperm preparation and assessment
  • Perform laboratory preparation, cleaning, monitoring and quality-control procedures
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
  • Assist with witnessing and traceability procedures
  • Monitor laboratory equipment, environmental conditions and consumables
  • Follow clinic SOPs, quality management systems and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain strict standards of laboratory hygiene, safety and confidentiality
  • Participate in ongoing training, competency assessments and professional development
  • Work collaboratively with embryologists, scientists, nurses, doctors and administrative staff

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Reliable, professional and committed to maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Eager to learn and develop within a clinical IVF laboratory

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Science, Biotechnology, Reproductive Biology or a related discipline
  • Strong interest in clinical embryology and assisted reproductive technology
  • Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to laboratory quality, safety and continuous improvement

Desirable

  • Previous experience in an IVF, embryology, pathology or clinical laboratory
  • Knowledge of reproductive biology, embryology or assisted reproductive technologies
  • Laboratory experience involving microscopy, cell culture or specimen handling
  • Understanding of quality management systems and clinical laboratory practices
