Are you looking for a Training Stage 1 position to develop your management of acutely unwell patients whilst receiving tailored support to complete ACEM’s Primary Examinations?

A Training Stage 1 position at Tamworth offers:

  • 36 months ACEM accredited core ED training
  • Paid protected 10 hour education day every 2 weeks (which includes SIMs, workshops and case based discussions)
  • Local access to the well-regarded Tamworth Primary Course (tamworthprimarycourse.com)

The role is suitable for Training Stage 1 Trainees enrolled in ACEM’s FACEM Training Program. Once you become an Advanced Trainee/Stage 2 Trainee, you will have early access to six-month Critical Care Terms in ANZCA accredited anaesthetics term and CICM accredited ICU term.

Where you'll be working

Tamworth is a city of 60,000 with a great selection of schools and cafes. We are part of the Hunter New England Local Health District which stretches from the NSW coast to the Queensland border and along with the rest of HNELHD and Port Macquarie are Network 4 in HETI’s Emergency Medicine Training Network.

Come and have a true rural experience without giving up access to shopping, dining, and a great night out. There is an abundance of local sporting teams and clubs as well as numerous other social activities to keep you busy.

We are the regional referral centre providing trauma and critical care services to over 15 rural hospitals. The ED sees 45,000 presentations annually across all specialties and age groups. There are daily opportunities for procedural skills improvement in a supported environment with 12 full-time equivalent FACEM staff with FACEM staffing on-site from 0700 – 2400 seven days/week. The Westpac Helicopter Retrieval Service has a base in Tamworth and medical staffing consists mainly of local ED senior staff. There is a 6-month ACEM accredited retrieval medicine term available for suitably experienced registrars.

If you are looking for an immersive and rewarding Emergency Medicine training experience with strong local support to pass ACEM’s Primary Examinations, then this is the job for you!

What you'll be doing

The primary purpose of the Training Stage 1 Trainee in the Emergency Department is to provide high quality clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment.
