About the role

Barwon Health is one of the largest and most comprehensive regional health services in Australia, providing care at all stages of life and circumstance across primary care, community services, aged care, rehabilitation, mental health, emergency and acute care. The service supports more than 500,000 people through a workforce of over 9,000 staff and volunteers across more than 20 sites.

The Ophthalmology Department supports a wide range of clinical ophthalmological services including corneal, glaucoma and vitreoretinal surgery, with a strong commitment to excellence in clinical education and developing research activities. The department has a strong focus on preparing senior trainees for consultant practice.

Subspecialty exposure is available in medical retina, vitreoretinal surgery, oculoplastics, uveitis, glaucoma and cornea.

The role includes one day each fortnight at Colac Area Health where registrars are involved in outpatient clinic services and may have the opportunity to attend additional theatre lists. The successful applicant will also be required to participate in the roster for after-hours, on-call and recall as required by the unit.

You will be part of a highly skilled, professional and dedicated team that promotes positive, respectful relationships and strong partnerships within the workplace. This is supported by Barwon Health’s commitment to professional development and continuous learning.

Located in Geelong, you will enjoy an outstanding lifestyle with access to inner city, coastal, suburban and rural living options, excellent schools, and proximity to the Surf Coast, Bellarine Peninsula and Great Ocean Road, alongside parks, recreational facilities and a vibrant dining and cultural scene.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical ophthalmology services across inpatient and outpatient settings
