At Healius, we’re united by a shared purpose: making a difference to the future of Australia’s health. Now is an exciting time to join us as we transform into a stronger, more agile organisation, with a focus on excellent customer and patient experiences, smarter ways of working and being a great place for our people to work.
This is an opportunity for experienced laboratory professionals who want to lead, influence and shape how our laboratories operate. You’ll have ownership over ways of working, driving high standards of accuracy, efficiency and quality, while contributing to improvements across our national network.
As we continue through an exciting period of transformation, you’ll be at the centre of this. From introducing new workflows and technologies to strengthening team performance and collaboration, your leadership will help shape how we evolve and ultimately deliver better outcomes for clinicians, patients and the communities we serve.
About Us
Healius is one of Australia’s leading healthcare companies, committed to supporting quality, affordable and accessible healthcare for all Australians. Through our network of state-based and specialty brands, we provide high-quality diagnostic services that support clinicians to make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes.
With more than 80 medical laboratories and approximately 2,000 patient collection centres nationwide, we process approximately one in four Medicare-funded pathology tests each year, supporting services that extend from some of Australia’s largest and most complex private and public hospitals to regional areas and remote Indigenous communities.
About The Role
You will lead the day-to-day operations of a satellite laboratory, ensuring high-quality, efficient and compliant diagnostic services. This role brings together operational leadership, people management and technical oversight, with accountability for performance, quality and service delivery.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead laboratory operations to ensure delivery against performance targets, turnaround times and service expectations
- Manage laboratory resources, including staffing, rostering and operational costs in line with budgets and KPIs
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation and quality standards (including NATA, TGA and internal procedures)
- Oversee internal quality control and external quality assurance programs, driving continuous improvement in laboratory practices
- Lead, coach and develop team members, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment
- Support with hiring, onboarding and ongoing capability development of laboratory staff
- Oversee validation and implementation of testing methodologies in collaboration with Pathologists and senior scientific staff
- Maintain safe work practices and ensure compliance with WHS requirements
Build and maintain effective relationships with partnered healthcare facilities and key internal stakeholders - Monitor, report on and improve laboratory performance, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and service delivery
About You
We’re looking for an experienced and knowledgeable multi-disciplinary Medical Laboratory Scientist who brings strong technical expertise, along with the ability to see the bigger picture and contribute to how laboratory operations perform and evolve.
You may have prior leadership experience or have demonstrated capability through mentoring, training or supporting others, with a clear interest in leading teams and improving ways of working. You’re confident managing competing priorities, maintaining high standards and building effective relationships, and are motivated by the opportunity to make an impact beyond day-to-day laboratory work.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent (AIMS recognised) is essential
- Demonstrated experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, ideally within a multi-disciplinary role
Requirements
- Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements, including Hepatitis B
Key Skills and Attributes
- Strong leadership capability, with the ability to foster collaboration and support effective teamwork
- Sound understanding of laboratory operations, workflows and quality systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to continuous improvement
- Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain high standards
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- High level of professionalism, integrity and attention to detail
We believe everyone leads, no matter what role they are in. Our ways of leading are the behaviours we expect our people to embody: Customer Focused, Accountable, Collaborative, Credible and Resourceful.
