Casual Market Staff – Silk Road

Silk Road is looking for enthusiastic, reliable and friendly casual team members to join us at our busy markets and events across Sydney.

IMPORTANT – DECEMBER AVAILABILITY REQUIRED:
We will be operating throughout the Martin Place Christmas Markets in December, which will be one of our busiest trading periods. Applicants must have strong availability during December and be available to work our scheduled market days and events during this period.

We’re looking for people who enjoy working with customers, can handle a fast-paced environment, and are happy to get involved in all parts of running a market stall.

What the role involves:

  • Setting up and packing down our market stall
  • Serving customers and taking orders
  • Preparing desserts, specialty drinks and other Silk Road goodies
  • Restocking and keeping the stall clean and organised
  • Loading and unloading equipment and stock
  • Handling busy service periods efficiently
  • Providing friendly and enthusiastic customer service

What we’re looking for:

  • Must generally be available Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • Must have good availability throughout December for the Martin Place Christmas Markets
  • Hours vary depending on the market or event
  • Must be able to make your own way to and from each market location
  • We trade at markets and events all around Sydney, so applicants need reliable transport or another dependable way of getting to different locations
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving equipment, stock and boxes
  • Friendly, confident and comfortable speaking with customers
  • Enthusiastic with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Able to work well in a fast-paced team environment
  • Willing to help wherever needed
  • Hospitality, café, market or customer service experience is preferred but not essential

Shifts can vary significantly depending on the event and may include early starts, daytime events, evening markets and late finishes.

This is a hands-on role, so we’re looking for someone who is just as comfortable helping set up and pack down the stall as they are serving customers and preparing desserts and drinks.

December is particularly important for us, so please only apply if you expect to have good availability during the Christmas market period.

As our markets are held in different locations across Sydney, staff are responsible for arranging their own transport to and from each event.
