Job Title: English Marker (Narratives, Essays, and Booklets)

About the Role:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented English Marker to join our team. This role involves marking students’ written work, including narratives, essays, TEEL paragraphs, and small English booklets, according to a provided marking key and guide. Markers are expected to provide constructive, extensive feedback to help students improve their writing skills.

While prior experience in marking is preferred, training and guidance will be provided so you can learn and adapt to our marking style. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of effective writing, including what makes narratives engaging, arguments convincing, and essays well-structured.

Key Responsibilities:

• Mark narrative writing pieces, essays, TEEL paragraphs, and comprehension booklets.
• Follow the provided marking guide and key to ensure consistency.
• Provide clear, constructive, and encouraging feedback on each piece of writing.
• Assess student work according to ability level and offer targeted suggestions for growth.
• Mark efficiently and within expected timeframes:
• 4 writing pieces per hour (narratives, essays, or TEEL responses).
• 12 small booklets per hour (short-answer or comprehension style).
• Maintain accurate records of marked work and feedback given.
• Communicate with the team if clarification is needed on marking standards.

Skills and Attributes:

• Strong background in English, writing, and/or teaching (preferred but not required).
• Ability to identify strengths and areas for improvement in student writing.
• Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
• Ability to cater feedback to different year levels and student abilities.
• Reliable, organised, and able to meet deadlines.
• Willingness to learn on the job and adapt to our tutoring company’s marking style.

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $20.00 – $22.00 per hour
