About Us

Victims, Redress and System Reform (VRSR) is part of the Community Safety, Victims and Racing Group within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). VRSR's Strategy, Policy and Performance teams are responsible for the development and implementation of policy that place victims and other priority groups at the centre of our justice system. This aims to support effective prevention, early intervention and effective responses to crime. This includes supporting major reforms including the Victims of Crime Financial Assistance Scheme, Victims Legal Service, Victoria's first Aboriginal Victims of Crime Strategy, priority reforms for victim survivors of family and sexual violence, and legislative reforms to elevate the victims within the justice system.

What you will do

As policy officer, you will help improve policies and services that support victims of crime.

You will work across legal policy, provide clear advice and support important government reforms.

You will:

• develop clear policy advice and analyse legislation to improve outcomes for victims
• prepare high-quality briefings, reports, correspondence and submissions for ministers and senior leaders
• support the governance and day-to-day operation of the Victims Legal Service with reliable secretariat support
• contribute to complex reform projects that strengthen services for victims of crime
• build positive working relationships across government to support policy development and service delivery.

About you

A tertiary qualification in public policy, public administration, law, human or social sciences is highly desirable.

You should have experience in policy development, strong written communication skills and a sound understanding of government processes. Knowledge of victims' issues and the criminal justice system is desirable.

You should also have:

• strong policy development and research skills
• clear written communication with close attention to detail
• sound project planning and critical thinking skills
• flexible and inclusive ways of working with others.
