Serve with purpose. Grow through community.

Help people build the skills, confidence and knowledge they need to stay safe in and around the water. As a Learn to Swim Instructor with Blacktown City Council’s Aqua Learn to Swim Team, you teach swimmers of different ages and abilities, support their progress and help them develop safe aquatic behaviours that last a lifetime.

Working across 5 aquatic venues, you plan and deliver structured lessons, demonstrate swimming techniques, monitor participant safety and adapt activities to suit individual skill levels. You encourage swimmers as they reach milestones, provide feedback to parents and carers, and create a positive learning environment where people feel supported to learn.

This role sits within Council’s Key Venues team, which manages Blacktown City’s aquatic and leisure centres. Your work directly supports safer participation in aquatic activities and helps address the ongoing need for strong water safety skills across the community.

You work flexible hours that suit a range of schedules, including after school, weekends and school holidays. You also receive ongoing training, development and mentoring while teaching a practical life skill that makes a real difference.

This role suits people who enjoy working with children and families, feel confident in the water, value teamwork, and take pride in helping others learn and grow.

At Blacktown City Council, good people make great teams, and great teams build great cities. Here, you will find the stability and support to keep growing, along with:

  • a casual role with one of Australia's largest councils
  • an entry level salary commencing at $32.8468 per hour, plus 25% casual loading
  • penalty rates apply for weekend shifts
  • 12% superannuation
  • ongoing training and development support
  • access to Fitness Passport, social clubs and wellbeing programs.

Our commitment to safety

Blacktown City Council is committed to safety. We have introduced alcohol and other drug testing at the pre-employment phase, and via a series of random and cause testing.

We are a child safe organisation that supports and promotes the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of children.
