Liverpool Hospital is recruiting for a Trainee to complement and enhance the current Anaesthetics Department.

Where You'll Be Working
Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.


Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.


What you'll be doing

The primary purpose of a Trainee in Anaesthesia is to provide anaesthesia care in a complex clinical environment. This will be done under supervision appropriate to the level of training of the applicant and in line with recommendations of the training program of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) or as part of the CICM or ACEM training programme or Diploma of Rural Generalist Anaesthesia, where this is applicable. Trainees are expected to extend their knowledge and skills in managing anaesthesia across multiple subspeciality areas of anaesthesia in order to meet the professional standards set by ANZCA. They are required to deliver anaesthesia, perioperative care and pain management services inside and outside the operating rooms and to perform other duties during rotations to other areas as directed. Trainees will participate as a multidisciplinary team member across key areas of anaesthetics including:-

  • anaesthesia and sedation (including obstetric anaesthesia where relevant)
  • airway management
  • pain medicine
  • perioperative medicine
  • resuscitation
  • trauma and crisis management

This PD covers hospitals offering accredited ‘Scheme’ (commonly 3-4 years) contracts. Offers of Scheme contracts will be based on the competitive application process, taking into account applicant preferences.
