Support modern web apps, AWS platforms and cloud services
Build smarter support processes in a growing engineering team
Hybrid role with no after-hours or on-call requirement

Love solving technical problems and improving the way technology supports people?

The opportunity:
Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) is looking for an Application Support Engineer to join our growing Software Engineering team.

This is more than a traditional application support role. You'll work at the intersection of software, cloud platforms and operations—supporting researchers, maintaining business-critical applications and helping build the operational foundations that keep our technology running reliably.

If you enjoy improving processes, solving technical challenges and working across modern web applications and cloud technologies, we'd love to hear from you!

About your new role

Reporting to the Head of Software Engineering, you'll provide hands-on business-as-usual support across a diverse portfolio of web applications, cloud platforms, databases and operational services.

Working closely with researchers, developers and cloud engineers, you will troubleshoot issues, manage application support requests, coordinate patching and monitoring activities, improve documentation and help establish best-practice operational processes as the Software Engineering team continues to grow.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a few years' experience who wants to broaden their technical skills while working in a collaborative engineering environment.

What you’ll do

Provide application support for web applications, microsites and cloud-based services
Manage support requests from researchers and internal stakeholders
Troubleshoot application, website and database issues
Coordinate monitoring, alert triage, routine patching and platform maintenance
Support AWS operations, access administration and cloud platform activities
Manage software, domain and certificate renewals
Maintain documentation, runbooks, service catalogues and operational records
Contribute to automation and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational support

What you’ll bring

At least 2 years relevant industry experience in application, web, platform or technical operations support
Experience supporting web applications or business-critical systems
Knowledge of relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL
Exposure to AWS or cloud-hosted environments
Experience with Windows Server administration and application patching
Familiarity with Git and basic scripting (PowerShell, Bash or Python)
Excellent troubleshooting, communication and customer service skills
A structured approach to documentation, process improvement and operational support

Experience with WordPress, Umbraco, Cloudflare, GitLab, Docker, Terraform or Linux will be highly regarded.

Please view the position description here.

Any questions? Reach out to Anthony Marty on anthony.marty@mcri.edu.au.

What you’ll enjoy

Boost your take-home pay with access to not-for-profit salary packaging
Hybrid working with a minimum of two days per week onsite
No after-hours or on-call roster
Be part of a collaborative and growing Software Engineering team
Work on technology that supports world-leading child health research
Opportunities to expand your skills across cloud, applications and platform operations
Access ongoing learning and professional development
Enjoy discounted coffee, staff parking, public transport right at your doorstep, and great facilities for cyclists
