ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Why this role matters

At The Salvation Army, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive. Our Youth Services team provides safe, supportive environments where young people feel heard, valued and empowered to achieve their goals. Through early intervention, community engagement and holistic support, we help young people build brighter futures and stronger connections.

About the role

Are you passionate about creating opportunities for young people to have their voices heard and make a genuine impact?

As a Youth Participation Worker, you'll design and deliver engaging, youth-led programs that inspire young people aged 16-25 to build confidence, develop life skills, strengthen their identity and expand their networks. Working across Youth Services Peninsula programs, you'll create safe and inclusive spaces where young people can connect, contribute and thrive.

Reporting to the Client Services Coordinator, this is a permanent part-time (0.6 FTE) position based on-site in Frankston, VIC.

Conditions

Compensation is in accordance with SCHADS Award Level 5.

How you will make an impact

  • Empower young people to actively shape programs and service delivery
  • Support young people to build confidence, resilience and independence
  • Create safe, inclusive and engaging environments where young people can flourish
  • Build partnerships with community organisations to increase opportunities and outcomes for young people
  • Provide person-centred, trauma-informed support that helps young people achieve their goals

What you'll bring

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Services, Social Sciences or a related discipline (degree qualification preferred)
  • Experience working within the community services, youth or social services sector
  • Strong understanding of youth participation, engagement and empowerment principles
  • A current VIC Driver's Licence
  • A current VIC Employee Working with Children Check

What we offer

At The Salvation Army, you'll be part of a purpose-driven organisation making a real difference every day. In return, we offer:

  • Salary packaging benefits of up to $15,900 tax free plus $2,650 meal entertainment
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave for primary carers
  • Purchased leave options of up to 8 weeks per year
  • 5 days paid leave annually to experience other TSA programs and services
  • Access to Fitness Passport, EAP and wellbeing initiatives
  • Ongoing learning, development and career progression opportunities
  • Dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander supports and cultural leave provisions
  • The opportunity to build a meaningful career creating positive and lasting change

How to apply

If you're passionate about empowering young people and creating opportunities for them to lead, connect and succeed, we'd love to hear from you. Submit your resume and cover letter outlining your suitability for the role.

Applications will be reviewed as received and will close as soon as a suitable candidate is secured.
