## Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Biomedical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the advancement of healthcare technology and patient outcomes. In this role, you will apply principles drawn from engineering, physics, mathematics, computing, and materials science to solve complex challenges in biology and medicine. You will work across the full lifecycle of medical equipment — from design and installation through to maintenance, safety assurance, and staff training. This position suits a technically adept professional with a passion for improving clinical environments and a commitment to safety, precision, and innovation.

## Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and evaluate biomedical equipment, devices, and systems to support clinical diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease
- Fabricate and adapt surgical instruments and specialist tools to meet the specific requirements of medical practitioners
- Install, configure, and commission new medical equipment across clinical settings, ensuring all systems meet operational and safety standards
- Conduct regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on a broad range of medical devices to minimise downtime and ensure continuous availability
- Perform rigorous quality assurance checks to verify that equipment meets regulatory, manufacturer, and institutional specifications
- Carry out electrical safety testing and compliance checks in accordance with Australian standards and relevant health regulations
- Collaborate with clinical and engineering teams to research, design, and develop implantable devices, prosthetics, and surgical aids such as artificial joints and craniofacial implants
- Apply knowledge of materials science and biocompatibility to evaluate and recommend appropriate materials for medical applications
- Deliver training programmes for clinical and technical staff on the correct and safe operation of biomedical equipment
- Provide expert technical advice and hands-on assistance to medical and allied health teams regarding equipment use and troubleshooting
- Prepare and maintain accurate technical documentation, including calibration records, maintenance logs, and safety reports
- Deliver presentations or lectures on electrical safety protocols and the clinical application of biomedical technology where required

## Required Qualifications & Skills

- Bachelor's degree or higher in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in a clinical or healthcare technology environment, ideally within a hospital, medical device company, or research institution
- Solid understanding of medical device standards, regulatory frameworks, and compliance requirements relevant to Australia (including TGA guidelines)
- Proficiency in performing equipment maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair across a variety of biomedical systems
- Sound knowledge of electrical safety principles and the ability to conduct and document safety testing in accordance with AS/NZS standards
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply engineering methodologies to biomedical challenges
- Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- High attention to detail and a systematic approach to quality assurance and documentation
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

## Preferred Qualifications

- Postgraduate qualifications in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, or a related field
- Registration or membership with Engineers Australia or a recognised professional engineering body
- Experience in the design or development of implantable devices, orthopaedic implants, or surgical instrumentation
- Familiarity with CAD software, biomechanical modelling, or medical imaging systems
- Previous experience delivering technical training or safety education in a healthcare setting
- Knowledge of ISO 13485 or other relevant medical device quality management systems

## Why Join Us?

- Work at the forefront of healthcare technology in a role that directly contributes to improved patient care and clinical outcomes
- Access ongoing professional development opportunities, including funded training, conference attendance, and support for further study
- Enjoy a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture that values innovation, safety, and continuous improvement
- Benefit from flexible working arrangements designed to support a healthy work-life balance
- Be part of a forward-thinking organisation committed to investing in its people and the future of biomedical science in Australia
