Full job description

  • A perfect role for those motivated by turning debts into payments!
  • Get the flex you need, with work from home and flexible options
  • Established, supportive team culture built by long-standing team members

A place for you. It means more here. We bring true purpose, authentic people and a proven path. You bring you.

The Opportunity

As a full‑time, permanent Collections Officer, you’ll play a key role in supporting the cash collection and accounts receivable function, ensuring the effective management and recovery of all outstanding accounts owed to the business.

This role will suit a self-starter who enjoys picking up the phone, connecting with people, and securing payment outcomes. You’ll enjoy the chase, stay hands‑on in recovery from people who owe us, and take real satisfaction in turning overdue accounts into cash.

Based in our Brisbane CBD-based head office and reporting to the Collections Manager, you’ll work closely in a small team of two to progress matters and ensure timely, compliant recovery outcomes. You’ll be part of an experienced and supportive Finance team, where you’ll build your collections capability, contribute to continuous improvement, and play an important role in keeping our receivables cycle moving.

It is also a great opportunity to help shape Shine’s collections function. While the current process is heavily Excel based and manual, you’ll relish the chance to support the Collections Manager as we optimise existing processes. There are plans to improve our systems, and you’ll play a key role in supporting this development for our Finance team.

Here’s how you’ll help us stay ahead of the pack:
  • Managing day-to-day debt recovery activities, following established processes to recover accrued fees, disbursements and other debts in a timely and compliant way.
  • Engaging with clients, insurers, solicitors and other stakeholders to negotiate repayment solutions, resolve issues and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Supporting collections performance by investigating accounts, reconciling balances and escalating complex matters where required.
  • Contributing to reporting and insights by assisting with data preparation, tracking progress of accounts and identifying irregularities or trends.
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders across finance and legal teams to progress matters, share updates and support positive collection outcomes.
  • Performing skip traces to locate previous clients, witnesses, defendants and debtors.
What you’ll bring

To thrive in this role, you will have:
  • Experience in collections, accounts receivable or a similar role, with a strong focus on resolving outstanding accounts.
  • Knowledge of debt collection requirements, credit, accounts receivable across Australia and New Zealand, especially of the legal processes end-to-end.
  • Excellent phone-based communication and influencing skills - you will enjoy speaking with people, handling objections, and negotiating practical payment outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build rapport and maintain positive relationships.
  • Solid problem-solving and investigative skills, with the ability to work through account issues and find solutions.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, or the willingness and aptitude to build your capability quickly.
  • A team-first mindset, with a willingness to learn, take feedback and contribute to a positive team environment.
