About the team
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Ethics Committee provides ethical review of human research in the field of oncology. The Human Research Ethics & Governance office manages both the ethical and governance review and approval processes. The office supports the researchers to navigate the ethical and governance review system.
About the role
Reporting to the Manager Human Research Ethics & Governance, the role of the Ethics & Governance Officer supports the Human Research Ethics & Governance office in all duties associated with the ethical and governance review, approval and monitoring of research projects by:
Managing ethics and governance submissions and associated correspondence/communication
Assisting in providing executive support to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Ethics Committee and its sub-committees\
Providing advice and guidance to researchers; and updating required database/s and maintaining data integrity.
About you
You will have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with a key attention to detail, particularly in relation to administrative and regulatory requirements.
You'll bring with you:
Tertiary qualification in health care, science, information management or a related discipline
Demonstrated high level of problem solving skills
Integrity, sound judgment and respect for confidentiality
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently
Strong organisational and time management skills

1. Manage ethics and governance submissions and associated correspondence/communication
- Assist in the management of the ethical or governance submission, review, acknowledgement and approval processes for human research projects
- Preparation and distribution of correspondence
- Preparation of invoicing
- Preparation and distribution of meeting agendas, minutes and reports, and attendance and minute taking at meetings
- Maintain records of membership and training for committee members
- Provide practical and technical support to committees to ensure they can perform their review duties
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders in the ethics and governance review and approval processes
- Provide advice and guidance for routine queries on submission, review and monitoring requirements according to established policies and guidelines
- Respond appropriately to urgent or unusual demands by stakeholders
- Ensure database data entry is up to date and accurate
- Develop processes to ensure data integrity
- Assist in collecting required data and compiling external and internal reports, as necessary
- Ensure Human Research Ethics & Governance intranet and internet sites are maintained
- Update the sites with relevant material
- Assist Manager, Human Research Ethics & Governance, Ethics Coordinator and Research Governance Officer in any responsibilities related to the development and coordination of the review of human research, as appropriate
- Temporary performance of other duties to ensure that all office functions are maintained during periods of staff absences or increased workload
- Consult relevant Peter Mac Ethics and Governance SOPs, guidelines, work instructions, website and staff to maintain current knowledge of submission and review processes
- Attend external information forums and training sessions to maintain current knowledge of ethical and governance review processes in Australia
